Although it's officially spring here in the Northern Hemisphere, I am going to rewind to the beginning of February when my partner, Dan, and I took a day trip out to Lake Tahoe. If you are new around here, I am currently living in Reno, Nevada. Depending on which part of the lake you want to drive to it typically takes about 45-60 minutes from downtown Reno. Since moving to Reno last year, we have made several day trips but this was our first in the winter. We left mid-morning on Saturday, February 10th.
Our first stop was to hike the Monkey Rock Trail. This is on the northeastern side of Lake Tahoe close to Incline Village. We ended up hiking about 3 miles round trip. There was a good amount of snow but with hiking boots, it was very doable. The head of the trail is at a parking lot with a cafe which we did not stop at but I can imagine is a great spot to grab a bite to eat or a cup of coffee before or after the hike.
After the hike, we made our way to Sand Harbor State Park. Dan's sister and brother-in-law gave us an amazing Christmas gift- "Sand Harbor Winter Scenic Tour for 2" that we had booked for today. This is a winter sleigh ride through the state park with beautiful views of Lake Tahoe. They also provide rides during the summer months as well in South Lake Tahoe. Thank you so much to Janine and Dylan for an amazing experience!
Our tour guide did an amazing job guiding us through the park on this 1 hour ride. We had an incredible time and would highly recommend to anyone visiting Lake Tahoe, especially during the winter months!
After our ride, we got a late lunch in town. We ate at Mofo's and had a delicious salad bar and pizza. Overall, it was a magical winter day spent in one of the most beautiful places I've been in my life. I love living so close to Lake Tahoe and am excited for the weather to warm up so we can have lots of summer excursions. Thank you for reading!
Monkey Rock. I gotta go there someday!
