Happy Thursday everyone! I'm back with another day in the life blog post. A day in the life blog post is a cumulation of photos that take you through a day in my life. I have done two other day in my life blog posts. One while I was teaching English in Budapest and another when I was in the Peace Corps in Indonesia. This particular day in my life happened on my last day of school (with students)! I'm excited to share this special but ordinary day with all of you. The day I am sharing with you took place on Monday, June 10th, 2024.
First up, I woke up at 5:45 am. This is typically about the time I wake up but I honestly haven't been in a great routine this year so every day differs by a little. Sometimes, I get up earlier and workout and sometimes I sleep in and quickly get ready before driving to school.
After getting out of bed, I showered and got ready in the bathroom. I listened to my favorite podcast, Morbid, while getting ready. If you are a fan of true crime podcasts, you should definitely try Morbid!
The next part of my morning involves taking care of our cat, Nala. She gets super hungry in the morning and we are lucky if she will let us sleep in until when our alarms are set to go off.
After feeding Nala, I set the tone for the morning by starting up my diffuser. I have a few island oil scents that are perfect for summer! I have a diffuser here at home and one at school as well. My kids love coming to school and smelling what the scent is for each day.
The next part of my morning routine is where I sit down and complete my quiet time. During quiet time, I journal, sip my coffee, read the news, and prepare for the day. On this particular day, I needed to finish editing a video for my students. I made an end of year video which has all the pictures of our class from this school year and I hadn't quite finished it the night before.
Around 7:40 am, I finished editing and packed up my backpack for the day. I also made Dan and I smoothies! On the left you can see all the ingredients I like to put into our smoothies (frozen fruit, yogurt, orange juice, and protein powder). I try to make smoothies as often as possible which usually ends up being a few days a week. I also got my iced coffee ready for the day too.
At 7:54 am, I was in my car in the parking lot ready to drive to work. I have about a 20 minute drive there.
Once I arrived at school, I prepared for the day by getting materials ready but also packing up my classroom! It was the last day with students and the following day would be my last day and so my room needed to be all packed up. If you've seen other pictures of my classroom, you can tell that in these pictures, the classroom looks a lot more plain and bland. Everything needs to be taken off of the walls by the time we leave for summer.
Once the students arrived at 9:15 am, they ate breakfast and I took attendance.
Around 10am, I took my students to my coworker's classroom because all of first grade was celebrating with a movie day! We watched Toy Story 3 and I worked on a blog post from when my mom and sister visited us in Reno.
Next, the kids went off to recess and lunch and us teachers enjoyed our lunch together. Afterwards, we had about an hour left of school (it was a short day because it was the last day of school), and I showed my kids the end of year video I made. I also read them "Oh the Places You'll Go" by Dr. Seuss and said goodbye before leaving for summer vacation!
After I got home, I relaxed and watched some Grey's Anatomy and read before taking a well deserved nap.
After my nap, Dan and I went on a long walk along the Truckee River which is located a couple blocks away from our apartment complex. We walked into downtown Reno and grabbed pizza at a local place. It was delicious!
The day concluded with watching one of our favorite shows- The Soprano's. Overall, it was a busy but normal day in the life of a 26 year old, first grade teacher living in Reno, Nevada. Thank you so much for reading this and for supporting my blog. I hope you are having a beautiful summer!
