Happy Wednesday! I got back last Wednesday, July 13th from an amazing week in New York. My boyfriend, Dan, is from Long Island and has been staying there this summer with his family for the last six weeks. Since we started dating a few years ago, I've made a trip there every summer. This trip was especially exciting because we were celebrating Dan's sister, Joanne's bachelorette party! I'm excited to share about the trip with you and recap all the fun!
I had an early morning flight on Wednesday, July 6th. My dad dropped me off at the airport around 4:30 am and I landed at La Guardia a little before 9am East Coast time. Dan picked me up from the airport and once we made our way back to his hometown, we had to stop for some New York bagels. The rest of the day was spent with Dan's parents and their dog, Sam. We caught up, swam in the pool, and had none other than New York pizza for dinner.
On Thursday, July 7th, Dan and I started the day with a 4 mile run through the local forest preserve. It's always nice having company on a run so I was super happy Dan joined me. We planned to go to Adventureland later in the day. Adventureland is an amusement park on Long Island that has been open since 1962. Dan has fun memories from going as a kid and as an amusement park enthusiast, I was really excited to explore! We had a great day there and especially loved cooling off on the log water ride from the hot weather.
By Friday, July 8th, both Janine and Joanne (Dan's sisters) had made it into town and I was so excited to see them and catch up! The whole bachelorette crew gathered at the Mariani house before taking the ferry over to Fire Island. Once we arrived, we got the house decorated for the weekend. We played games, ate pizza, and hung out at the house on Friday night.
On Saturday morning, I started my day with a long run on Fire Island. I ended up running mostly on the beach and ended the run a couple miles short because of the hot weather.
Afterwards, I met everyone at the beach. We brought the beach chairs, snacks, coolers, towels, boogie board, and more down for the day. It was the perfect beach day.
After we got back to the house, we showered and got ready for a nice, sunset dinner at Flynn's and then went out to a few bars to celebrate Joanne. I had so much fun with everyone and I can't wait for the wedding in September!
The following day, we made our way back to Long Island and took it easy. We were all pretty exhausted from the weekend's festivities.
On Monday, July 11th, Dan and I made our way into New York City. Janine drove us over to the train station and we stopped at 7-11 for free slurpies!
We met Joanne and Nick for dinner at Mom's Kitchen & Bar in Hell's Kitchen. The food and drinks were fantastic- I highly recommend!
Afterwards, we walked over to the Majestic Theater. For my birthday, Dan bought the two of us tickets to see Phantom of the Opera on Broadway! I was so excited especially because this is Dan's favorite show. It certainly did not disappoint. I was blown away by the performers and their vocals. It was the perfect summer night in NYC!
Tuesday, July 12th was my final full day on Long Island. Dan and I had some work to get done so it was mostly a chill day spent at his house with his family. We even played Pickle Ball with Dan's dad in the evening which was a blast.
The following day, I had a 10am flight back to Chicago. Overall, I had an incredible time and I'm so thankful for Dan and his family for a great week. Now I'm back in Chicago with my family spending time with them and my friends all the while preparing for our next adventure which begins next week. Thanks for reading!
