Spring Break 2023 Part 3- AMSTERDAM

Part 3 of my spring break trip took us to Amsterdam! If you missed part 1 or part 2 you should read them first to catch up! We arrived in Amsterdam by train around 11am on Easter Sunday, April 9th. After a long overnight train ride, we were starving for a good meal. We found a local breakfast stop close by to the train station. After eating, we went back into the train station to take a train to our AirBnB. Our AirBnB was located outside of the city of Amsterdam but in the heart of Amersfoort.

To be honest with you, we waited a long time to book our this stay so we ended up staying a little outside of the city because the options in the city were limited and very pricey. However, we ended up LOVING Amersfoort it was just a bit of a trek to get to and from Amsterdam.

Our AirBnB was in the heart of Amersfoort which you can only access on foot or via bicycle. I loved the streets surrounding it.

I was so impressed to see this many bicycles outside of the train station and this isn't even all of them! The Netherlands is known for its bicycles and that was definitely a huge takeaway for me. I loved it!

After getting checked into our AirBnB and taking a little rest, we took the train back into Amsterdam to explore! The streets were so busy and filled with so much to look at.

I fell in love with the canals! Amsterdam has become one of my favorite cities after this trip.

Later that night, we had to check out the Red Light District. It was so wild and even more than what I imagined it to be like.

The last activity we had planned for Sunday night was a "booze cruise". It was about an hour long and we were given a tour around the canals of the city and unlimited drinks. This was one of our favorite activities we did.

We walked back to the train station and took the train back to Amersfoort for the night! The Amsterdam train station (pictured above) is just gorgeous.

On Monday morning, I woke up early to go on a six mile run. This is the view stepping outside of our AirBnB.

My run took me through Amersfoort and out into the beautiful parks surrounding it and to the countryside as well. My favorite part was seeing the sheep!

After my run, we headed back into Amsterdam. One of the activities that came most recommended to us from friends and family who had visited Amsterdam was a bike tour! We made arrangements with the Yellow Bike Tour company the day prior and met at 1pm on Monday afternoon.

Our tour took us by the Anne Frank house which I really wanted to see. I tried to reserve tickets six weeks prior but they release them 2-3 months prior and they sell out immediately. I'm sad we didn't make it inside but that just means we'll have to come back!

Our bike tour also took us through the museum quarter. Here is a great view of the Rijksmuseum.

We stopped on the Skinny Bridge and found these gorgeous flowers!

We spent the rest of the day walking around and exploring Amsterdam mostly by foot. We grabbed food and drinks and eventually made our way back to Amersfoort.

Tuesday, April 11th was our final day in Amsterdam. We started the day by grabbing breakfast at a local spot. It was delicious!

Coffee was much needed.

After breakfast, we had a few hours to spare before we needed to head to the airport. We spent that time exploring Amersfoort.

Here is a picture of Dan and I at Koppelpoort. It is a medieval landmark built in the 14th and 15th centuries.

Afterwards, we took a train to the Schipol airport. Our flight to Vienna was leaving around 5pm that evening.

We got into Vienna around 7:30 pm Tuesday night. Dan and his friends were spending the night in Vienna but I had to take a 9pm bus back to Budapest because I had work early the following morning. I got home a little before midnight and went straight to bed. I am so grateful for this amazing spring break trip. I loved every moment and I am so grateful that I was able to have these experiences. Thank you for reading this post and spring break series!
