Welcome back to my blog! If you haven't already I would suggest reading my Spring Break Part 1 recap here. At the end of March, Dan and I took off on a road trip for the Grand Canyon. After our time there, we headed south to Phoenix, Arizona. That is what this blog post is going to summarize.
After a few days of adventures in the Grand Canyon, we drove to Phoenix on Monday, March 25th. Along the way, we made stops in Flagstaff and Sedona. We greatly enjoyed both places and wish we had more time to explore them. Our lunch in Sedona was absolutely delicious! We ate at the Coffee Pot Restaurant which had an insanely big menu and great food. I would highly recommend for anyone else stopping in Sedona.
After stopping for a bite to eat, we finished the drive to Dan's cousin's house in Phoenix which is where we planned to stay. Sean, Dan's cousin, graciously offered us to stay with him and we were beyond excited! Once we got there that evening, we showered and freshened up after 3 days of camping and then went out to dinner at the Taco Guild in downtown Phoenix. This was a super cool restaurant set in a historic church.
The next morning, we lounged around Sean's beautiful backyard and enjoyed the sunny, warmer morning weather.
Next, Sean was kind enough to take us off roading! We were beyond excited to go on this adventure especially guided by a local. The off roading led us to gorgeous views, many cacti, and wildlife including mules.
After our off roading adventure, Dan and I drove over to Papago Park which houses the popular Hole in the Rock. The Hole in the Rock is a unique view and an easy, family friendly hike. We stopped for a bit but did not need much time here.
Afterwards, we drove over to one of my very good friends' apartments. Katie Wills who I met in 7th grade when we moved from Wisconsin to Illinois, recently moved to Phoenix during Fall 2023. I was thrilled to be able to meet up with her and to finally meet her cat, Quincey!
After stopping at her apartment, the three of us (Dan, Katie, and I) drove over to the trailhead of the Echo Canyon Trail at Camelback Mountain. This was one of my favorite hikes of all time! It was tough with a lot of incline and even rock climbing at the end but the view and the experience made it all worth it.
The rest of Tuesday was spent eating good food and relaxing at Sean's house with his two adorable dogs- Thunder and Sally.
On Wednesday, March 27th, Dan and I drove over to the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix. Both of us have minimal experience in the desert so we were excited to see more of the flora up close. It did not disappoint!
On Thursday, March 28th, we made the 12 hour drive home from Phoenix to Reno. Overall, we had the most amazing time in Phoenix and are so grateful for Sean for hosting and entertaining us! I truly enjoyed Phoenix and would certainly visit again.
